Dishwasher Safe Travel Mug Buying Guide
Having the option to take hot or cold drinks around with you can save you a lot of money. But what features make the best dishwasher safe travel mug. Here, we take a look at just what you should be considering.
a) Material
The materials on offer for dishwasher safe travel mugs are plastic, ceramic and stainless steel.
Stainless steel and ceramic are BPA-free and safe for consumption. If shopping around for a plastic mug, you need to check carefully to ensure that the mug is made from BPA-free plastic if you don’t want to risk the potential of negative health risks.
b) Temperature Retention
Travel mugs should keep your beverage at the temperature you want for as long as possible. That applies to both hot drinks and cold drinks.
Generally speaking, these mugs can keep your drinks colder for a much longer time than they can keep them hot. Check out the exact figures on a seller’s page, and if these aren’t listed, move on.
Even a basic, BPA-free plastic mug should be able to retain heat for a minimum of three hours. The better mugs have heat retention times that can be as high as 12 hours.
Cold retention should be quite a few hours longer, but this varies from mug type to mug type and how much insulation the mug provides.
c) Capacity
How much do you plan to drink?
These mugs come with capacities ranging from 10oz up to 24oz. That’s roughly 295ml to 700ml.
Go any higher, and you may as well by buying yourself a flask.
When considering the capacity, think about how you are going to carry the travel mug. You don’t want to be carrying by hand the whole of your journey, so consider whether you have a coat pocket or space in your bag to keep it.
Personally, even if the manufacturer says the mug is leakproof, we wouldn’t risk putting a mug in the main section of our bag with valuables and other stuff. So it will need to be small enough to fit in a side pocket.
